Everything is budding and growing. It produces a newness, and also a renewal, and also vision in our human hearts.

We’ve been talking about winter, but now it’s time to move into spring.

Winter, beginning December 21, is a time of REVERENCE.
Spring, beginning March 21, is a time of RENEWAL.
Summer, beginning June 21, is a time of RESOLVE.
Fall or Autumn, beginning September 21, is a time of REFLECTION.
We’ll be looking at all of these seasons during 2021.

It’s Time For a Little ‘Spring Training’

Spring training is something that is mentioned in articles and books, and what it is intended to do is to give us a new outlook on spring. …

This is the last in the series on winter. Next, we will talk about spring.

Winter Is A Time For New Perspective

Winter is a time for a new perspective — a new perspective about ourselves, other people, life, God, and other things. And it’s also a time of reverence. …

This Prayer Becomes Even More Powerful in Light of the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth — of the Gospel.

The Apostle Paul says the gospel is the power of God, and that it establishes us. It reveals all the reality of God’s truth to us. Paul says it puts it to work in us. The gospel is empowering in ways we often have a hard time believing.

‘The Lord’s Prayer,’ Matthew 6:9–13, is dynamic. But Jesus prayed it before the cross. As the gospel is revealed in the New Testament, we discover that many things were made even then they were before. Thus, some last words Jesus spoke from the cross were, “It is finished!”

Before the cross, Jesus…

How We View Other People

We should make it a goal to try to see other people differently. We see their uniqueness as a creation of God. This is how Jesus saw people, and he said to let his ways of living flow through to us.

Too often, we view others through the eyes of comparison. There are so many types of people, with so many different temperaments, personalities, and talents, that there is really no way to compare ourselves to others. And this doesn’t even consider sex, race, color, size, health, education, etc., etc.

And then, comparisons lead to criticism and judgment. We all…

Why Do So Many Relationships Fail?

There are several lists of reasons why relationships, and especially marriages fail. One list I saw contained 25 reasons. Many such lists have 12–15 reasons.

Personally, I like an 8-reason list: part of it I wrote and part of it I borrowed. It’s easier to digest than 12, 15, or 25 reasons, and it covers most problems.

1. Financial and debt problems

2. Infidelity and Adultery

3. Different expectations and failed expectations

4. Physical or emotional abuse

5. Changes in needs, priorities, and goals

6. Lack of communication and commitment

7. Addictions: most often booze and drugs

8. Laziness and a refusal to change

Most of these don’t require any comment. But I will comment on two of them — the first one and the last one — because they are so frequent. Plus, they are so polarizing in so many relationships.

(1) Financial problems. Before the…

As a lawyer, divorces were only a small part of my business, but I handled more of them than I can remember — or want to remember. Divorces are hard on the adults but especially on the kids. Kids don’t understand, and often feel they are to blame and are responsible for the divorce.

The Garden of Gethsemane in History

The Garden of Gethsemane is the place where Jesus was taken prisoner before he was crucified. It was a time of agony and soul-searching. He had a decision to make about what he would do, and his conclusion was, “Father, not my will, but your will be done.”

Jesus was making a decision we all have to make, albeit not on the level that he had to make…

Having reverence of course includes God, in a spiritual sense. Another word for this might be worship, or living in thankfulness and gratitude. But in a broader sense, it also means to have a deep respect for someone or something. This is what winter is: a time to think, ponder, meditate. It’s a time to get our head screwed back on straight so we have more gusto the rest of the year.

We Hear about ‘Content Creation’ and How Important it Is. But Where Do You Get an Over-Abundance of Ideas for Content?

Photo by Johen Redman on Unsplash

I’ve been hearing so much about CONTENT CREATION from two ‘gurus’ I follow: https://jeffherring.medium.com — https://timmaudlin.medium.com

I’ve been calling myself ‘The Gospel Life Coach’ for over 20 years. This is because about 1995 I made a total switch — and I changed horses in the middle of the stream.

As a lawyer, I was bred on the law. Living by means of laws, ordinances, rules, and procedures were the foundation of my life. So, when I became a Christ-follower I figured the only way to relate to God was my means of his Old Testament law. …
