Psalm 51 through Psalm 58

2 Corinthians 3:6, 14–16, Hebrews 10:9 and other passages show us the Old Testament should be read with the New Testament gospel on our minds and hearts. If we don’t, it’s like having a veil over our hearts. We are told the New Testament fulfills and completes the Old.

In these Old Testament Psalms, I use gospel truth from the New to show how living in the New enhances life more by introducing God’s power. The Psalms talk of things like dealing with enemies harshly in revenge, or asking God to kill them, or being totally bewildered, and in a lack of peace. etc. This is not the New Testament standard set forth by Jesus. So I omit a lot of lines in the Psalms that speak in this way, and bring in New Testament gospel light, truth and reality.

Psalm 51

Jesus says that he will not turn anyone away who comes to him (John 6:37). In this Psalm, David confesses his sin of adultery with Bathsheba and even the murder of her husband. This shows the power of this verse in John. His words state that he is blessed because the Lord will…
