Many Christians Find the New Testament Gospel Very Difficult!

The Gospel is the way God thinks, not the way we think. Isaiah says God’s thoughts are far above ours. This means we must strain and stretch to try to reach them. They don’t come naturally. But we are told God the Holy Spirit reveals them to us, at least if we ask him to.

Christians who hear the gospel the first time often say, “It’s just too good to be true — even God can’t be this good.” It’s too much to believe. Thus, most try to relate to God by means of law or religion, not the gospel.

Religion and theology are man’s ideas about God. The gospel is God’s idea about God. Which do you think is the most trustworthy to live by?

Many people even think the gospel is doctrinal error the first time they hear it because it’s brand new to them — they’ve never heard it before! They have only heard religion or law. Now let’s talk about why this is often true.

Sunday School 101 Can Get In the Way

In most churches (not all), the first thing mentioned in what I call ‘Sunday School 101’ is Moses and The Ten Commandments. This is all about what we should do and shouldn’t do.

I may use this too often but it does communicate: “DO attend church, read your Bible, pray, have quiet time, serve in some way, attend small group, and give lots of money.” Or: “DON’T lie, cuss, cheat, steal, commit
